RICHARD

FOR WARD 2

This Campaign is Different.

I’m not part of the political machine or a dynasty– I’m your neighbor and advocate. As a progressive lawyer and renter who chose Streeterville, I’m fed up with Chicago politicians who are more focused on their egos than on the cost of living. My campaign is for those who did everything they were supposed to do, but feel like they are just getting by. I want to be an alder that does what’s best for Ward 2 and not my ego.

Instead of a sequel to Chicago’s history of “Council Wars,” my campaign offers:

  • Authentic representation of Ward 2’s renters, first time homeowners, and business community

  • Evidence-based policy approaches to youth violence and teen takeovers over performative crime-fighting

  • Compassionate politics that defend Chicago against a weaponized federal government

  • Fresh perspectives from someone politically aligned with Ward 2’s forgotten majority

Meet Richard.

Richard Omoniyi-Shoyoola is a writer, attorney, and civic leader running to be your next alderman for Chicago's 2nd Ward. Richard immigrated to the United States as a child and grew up in St. Louis. He studied Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he got involved in local progressive politics and journalism.

Richard is running to be an alderman who reflects the interests of Ward 2's renters and aspiring homeowners. He believes no one should have to make six figures to call our ward home, and that working professionals deserve access to truly affordable housing and a rising taxable real estate base that reduces our property taxes.

His campaign centers on smart housing policy, improved transportation infrastructure, workforce development, and community-driven solutions to crime that actually work and do not just sound good at press conferences.

Ward 2 deserves leadership that prioritizes the majority of its residents. Richard is ready to deliver.
